Chronicles of Starsong Land - Part II

Usually I adore the run up to Christmas. But this year it was made harder by the fact that we have our house on the market and we were having to contend with showing people (with dirty shoes!) around. One woman had a peculiar look of dissatisfaction on her face which prompted me to say to her

"Don't you like beams?"

"I don't like them at all" she replied.

Now why on earth would you want to view a timber-framed property that started off its life in the late 1400s if you don't like beams?!!! Heaven help us!

(This isn't our house, BTW. But very similar.)

Dan picked up a second dose of viral pneumonia which had him coughing for weeks and weeks, and I got a bit of a sore throat and sniffles. But mainly it is looking after an ailing man that has a draining effect on me. LOL!

I had, fortunately, arranged to visit my good friend Jan in a nearby city. I was sooooo excited, and as you know, she has lost loads of weight and looked stunning.

She is full of humour and such a nice person to share a meal and go shopping with. My jaws ached by the time I was on my way home.

Now, what I didn't reveal was that Jan handed me a gift in a Christmassy little bag, with a giggle. I should've observed her body language more closely. The minx!

(Jan - I have to tell you that Dan really, really loved it!!)

We sat happily unwrapping presents on Christmas morning with our daughter, son-in-law and smallest grandson. Most of the 555 presents were for smallest, but Dan and I did get a few.

I am one of these people who love to watch other people opening presents, but tend to leave mine till later. However, we did open our children's gifts and they were lovely.

Then our daughter, who was doing the honours and foraging around under the tree, gravely handed me my gift from Jan. Ha!

Some second sight told me to tell her that I would open it later as this particular friend had a wicked sense of humour.

Was I glad I did!

I like it very much, Jan, and thank you for being so thoughtful. But let me warn you that I have a similar naughty sense of humour and know exactly what to get you next Christmas! Ha!

This is it everyone -

Jan had it especially made for me at a local pottery. Thank goodness I didn't open it in front of my daughter and son-in-law. Every suspicion they have about me being somewhat kinky would have been instantly confirmed.

As I write this it is sleeting yet again outside the windows.

Horrid cold, icy, yucky stuff!

It makes me think about what I wear to bed in this old and draughty house. If what I am about to impart to you makes you laugh, and think I am totally hopeless, well so be it.

When we first married, I wore sheer, sexy nighties, and nothing else.

The sheerer and sexier the better. Even my robes were sheer and sexy to match the nighties.

Then somehow, over the years, the sexiness went out of my nightwear, and I started to cover up more and more. I can remember how I owned and wore several Victorian style nightgowns made of wincyette that did right up to the neck and had long sleeves and went down to the floor.

They covered up every bit of me!

Eventually I relaxed into wearing a nightie resembling a thigh-length t-shirt.

But I still kept my knickers on. Dan and I had one terrific argument about me wearing knickers in bed. He said that he wanted access at all times, and I was not prepared to remove them. What would happen, I asked, if there was an emergency in the middle of the night?

Well, there was, once. Whilst we were staying in a hotel down near the M25. We were all herded out on the pavement at 4 in the morning. I was very glad indeed that I was wearing my knickers! Golly it was cold!

But then, when we started TTWD, I got up enough courage to ask Dan if there was anything he would like me to 'submit' to. After he had picked himself up off the floor and managed to stop laughing long enough to reply, he thought for a moment, and then said "Although our sex life has improved 300%, why do you still wear a nightie and knickers in bed? I would like you to sleep in the nude."

I was stunned. I just hadn't thought about it.

"I want to be able to caress you, kiss you and make love to you whenever I want, and I hate having to struggle to remove all your clothing."

"I might get cold."

"Then I shall make sure I keep you warm.

"Oh."

I found it quite difficult at first. It felt strange to feel the sheets and duvet directly on my skin. But Dan kept his word. I have never been cold. He slides right up behind me and spoons. He is one of these men who feel as hot as a furnace, and we always have to move apart before dropping off to sleep.

Just very occasionally do I wear a nightie and that is only on an extremely cold winter's night. (And bedsocks!)

But never knickers, and sometimes I just wear a t-shirt on the top half to keep my shoulders and chest warm. I do have a silly habit of sleeping with my arms out of bed, and they do sometimes get rather icy. Old houses like ours are not the warmest of places.

Also, I confide that in the winter we have a hot water bottle

which I make and take up with me. I get my side of the bed all nice and toasty, then I push it over to Dan's side ready for him. Old-fashioned, but very effective, and it doesn't use up electricity like electric blankets do! And if the night is extra cold, I spread a patchwork quilt on top of duvet and you can just about see the tops of our heads as we burrow down into the warmth.

Does anyone else wear anything mildly eccentric in bed, I wonder?

  1. Children can enter at any given moment during the night hours so I always wear a nightgown or pajamas to bed...but usually no panties. On our recent date night with no children home...we both slept in the nude and it felt so free..and we did indeed keep each other warm. :-) I love the house - so sweet. Hugs

    1. It's funny how we change over the years with regard to 'bedtime attire'. I personally blame the Victorians who introduced all this need to cover everything up all the time. But I know from experience that my arms and shoulders have a tendency to freeze, so whilst I wish I could go to bed completely nude all the year around, I do have to cover up my top half at least.

  2. Hi Ami, glad you liked your present. I wish you had opened it in front of everyone and that I had been there to watch lol. I have an electric blanket, sod the expense, and lots of lovely nighties. Socks are a definite even if the rest of me is naked!! We haven't had that sleet, you dare send that this way. I think it is freezing and then I read about all my friends in Blogland and realise it is positively balmy here!!

    1. The present is truly terrific, Jan.

We used to have electric blankets years ago, but stopped bothering with them as we got too hot. Usually Dan is hot enough for the both of us, but I do like to start off the night with warm feet.

I am so fed up with the changes up and down in temperature at the moment. Maybe living on the coast you don't quite get the fluctuations we get a little further inland. I'll be sure to send you some sleet next time we get some. Smirk!

  3. Ami, good friend!
You have us all yearning for spring! We sleep under down duvets. Every night I begin my time in bed with Jack wearing a pretty cami and sexy panties or tap pants. In the morning, I usually must search for them in the thick of the bed clothes. In the summer, he prefers me nude. It is in the warming up stage, that crawling into bed with so little on when the temps are freezing, that I long for warmer night clothes. Jack, like Dan, has a way of warming things right up even after all these years.

    1. You are dead right about the 'warming up stage'! I do wish we had discovered 'spooning' years ago, though. Both of us dangle a foot out of bed on a regular basis, which is funny, but quite a common thing to do apparently. I still have some beautiful silk nighties, but reserve them for taking on holiday - just so they can be arranged nicely on our turned down bed at night with the usual chocolate on the pillow. LOL!!

  4. Jan is very naughty. Good thinking on your part. But it would have been funny, since at least they were all adults.
Ty would like me to wear nothing to bed. I am a hot sleeper but uncomfortable with not at least wearing a top. I keep my sweats right on the floor next to me in case I have to get out of bed quickly. But my glasses are right beside me too. Lol Comfortable sleeping is important to me. If I don't get my mood sleep I am not a nice person to be around.

    1. Jan is a wonderful lady! And yes, it would have been very funny, but I am not ready to disclose our proclavities to my son in law as yet. LOL!

I am one of these people who could do with sleeping in a king size bed just by myself with another king size right close to it for Dan. But in our old house we don't have that kind of space. I sleep like a starfish, which isn't always easy, and I move around alot.

Snap. Like you I wake up grizzly if I don't get my seven hours (at least) sleep.

  5. Ami, I always enjoy your posts :) love the gift fron Jan, naughty thing lol. Thank goodness you didn't open it in front of your family! I too love to watch everyone open gifts one at a time.

It's funny how our men prefer us naked in bed since ttwd and are more than capable of turning up the heat :) Rick prefers me to sleep naked too. I wasn't comfortable with it at first.

Hope you are both feeling better now.

    1. I am glad you are another one who wasn't comfortable with sleeping naked to begin with. I have several vanilla friends who have always slept naked - and I began to wonder what was wrong with me, with us. But now we enjoy it; it feels so natural.

  6. For a long time my choice was flannel pants and a tee shirt...comfort and warmth....change that to comfy shorts in the summer. Master has changed that...His furry body acts like a furnace.....

  7. I used to wear a long gown and I didn't want to be touched in bed. The day I came out to Nick about spanking I made two changes - I let my hair grow out the the perm I'd kept it in and I began sleeping in the nude. I love it. The only thing that's ever cold might be my shoulders, but it's worth it.

I'm so proud of Jan! A wonderful gift! I too wish you had opened it in front of your daughter!

    1. You and I are definitely sisters! The thing I hated being touched more than anything was my boobs - and Dan always made for them. I can remember many terse words over it. Yet now I just love him paying them attention. LOL!

I just wish my hair was as thick and luxuriant as it was when I was younger. It is slowly getting longer, but is like fine spun silk and very flyaway. Still, I always wear it up during the day, so it doesn't bother me.

So far I won't tell our daughter anything. Maybe one day, but not just yet.

  8. LOLOL Ami! :) I LOVE Jan's very creative gift! How fun!

Like you, perhaps all the kids around had a lot to do with it but I had never even thought of sleeping in the nude regularly until this whole thing. Now Rob and I always go to bed sans clothes. It does feel weird these days when we go visiting or something and need to wear something to bed...

We lock our bedroom door so no worries about the kids coming in. Rob turns down the thermostat in the night to save on the oil bill. My first leap into bed at night is generally a very fast one. Is it ever COLD! But no worries, things usually warm up rather quickly. Especially if you-know-who gives a couple of swats to yours truly! LOL! Once Rob is in bed, he provides the furnace usually. Toasty!

As an aside, the other day when Rob decided to empty the 50 in the spank bank, he ordered me to strip. I told him that it was cold. He informed me that I wouldn't think that in a couple of minutes. At the end of the spanking he inquired about my status in that department. Umm... He was right about that! HA!

Loved the post! So glad that you all are feeling much better! Many hugs,

    <3 Katie

    1. The funny thing is that I only ever take a nightie on holiday, or away anywhere with us, to be used "just in case". I think you get used to not wearing anything and then when you do it feels very strange.

We always had a rule in our household, that if a door was closed, ie bedroom, bathroom, the person coming to that door had to knock. The children were very good when they realised that we always knocked on their doors too, and never just walked in. But nudity with our kids has never been an issue somehow.

      Ah, another furnace type man!

The snag with being spanked when you are cold is that it seems to sting twice as much! And after all, they are only spanking your BTM and so the rest of you continues to freeze! LOL! And dangle! LOL!

  9. Life is always moving at warp speed with you and Dan! It does seem as if you still had a lovely Holiday, though!
I would be happy- like you- that I didn't open Jan's LOVELY present in front of the whole crew!
We have a small house and people always in and out. I usually wear some sort of t- shirt and cute panties. Every now and again I sleep topless, therefore, like Blondie I keep either sweats or a top near- by!

    1. I need to ask - are "sweats" jogging trousers? The word sweat brings to mind all sorts of things. LOL!

Being made out of starlight I have always moved at the speed of light! LOL!

It's good to know other people have a moving populace in their households. Good grief - when the kids lived at home it was so busy with all their friends coming and going that we rarely knew exactly who was in the house and who wasn't.

  10. Ami,
So sorry you and hubby were sick over the holidays - but glad that your friend Jan could cheer you up with her naughty present, lol!
I love your night-ware history - I'm sure we all have gone through similar changes over the years.
I am a big lover of flannel pajama pants and a tank top - we still have kids in the house and even though we have a lock on the door, they are still around. But hubby will often ask me to sleep topless, which I'm happy to do. (yes he's still a boob man lol.) He's a furnace as well and I love it when it's chilly enough here for us to spoon.

    1. Your comments made me giggle because it is my top half that gets so cold always.

When our kids were older, it was very common to encounter them roving around the house in the mornings or late evenings in very little. With not having any near neighbours there was never the worry that anyone else would see in through the windows.

It is temperature here in this cold country that is the issue really. The temperature is so changeable. Because our house is so old it is impossible to keep as warm as we would like. We would be heating the outside. But we do have the luxury of log fires, and of course, living in an old house does have many compensations.

Funny how many furnace men there are around. Giggle.

  11. I wear socks all winter long - once in a while if it's really cold I will put on a long sleeve shirt because when I read in bed, my top gets cold, but mainly just socks.

    1. Do you find that you start off with cold feet and the socks feel lovely, and then all of a sudden you want to tear them off and sling them across the room? I am always doing that.

Ah Ha. Yes, maybe it is because I read in bed and my shoulders therefore get cold before I snuggle down to go to sleep. And then I fling my arms out during the night and they freeze even more.

      Aren't we al funny?

  12. ROFLMBO! Way to go Jan! Love that gift...absolutely perfect! So sorry Dan has been fighting illness and you have been drug down between tending to him and showing persnickety people through your house.

For years, when I was married to my ex, I slept in nothing...just kept an oversized man's t-shirt next to the bed to slip over my head if the kids came in and needed anything. When I travel and have to stay in a hotel, I do wear a sleep shirt to bed...never know what might happen. LOL I get very hot when I sleep so end up putting one foot out from under the covers...if both of my feet get hot, I get very hot...I know...very strange. ;)

    Hugs and Blessings...
